Onsite wastewater lagoons at a petrochemical manufacturing plant in Western Canada were experiencing difficulty in meeting the ammonia discharge limit during cold-weather conditions. The three-cell lagoon system provides pretreatment of the facility’s sanitary and process wastewater before the effluent is released to the municipal sewer. But during the winter months, the system struggles to achieve the discharge limit set by the city.

Estuary Remediation Using Geotube® Dewatering Technology

Canal do Fundão is a 6 km long artificial estuary formed in the early 1950’s. Over time sediment has built up in the canal and it has not been able to self-flush for the last 20 years. A comprehensive testing program for contaminant types and concentrations was carried out along the length of the canal. It was decided to dewater the dredged contaminated sediments in specially designed cells using Geotube® dewatering containers. Once the dewatering was completed the cells would be capped and vegetated and become part of the natural landscape of Fundão Island.

Lagoon Cleanup in Dundee, Oregon

Chicken Processing Plant Lagoon Cleanup

Mexico’s largest chicken farm was pumping high BOD discharge straight into the river system because their 2 sludge lagoons were full. The levels of BOD discharge were exceeding permit requirements, and plans of an expansion meant dewatering of the lagoons. Geotube® technology was able to capture and hold 62800 cubic metres of material allowing fully operational lagoons again.
